OMS - Optimization of Mechanical Structures

Winter Term

Lecture: Topology Optimization

Lecturer: Dr. - Ing. Katrin Weider

Contents:

Among the different methods of the structural optimization the topology optimization did the quickest entry in the development processes of industrial products. The definition Topology Optimization means the optimization of location and arrangement of assemblies. Besides, a simplistic shape optimization is integrated, as a rule. The different approaches of the topology optimization are treated.

The course is organized as follows:

1. Theory of the topology optimization with the pixel method

2. Theory of the topology optimization with the combined topology and shape optimization

3. Theory of heuristic-based procedures

4. Choice of suitable methods for an existing problem

5. Realization of topology optimization

6. Possibilities for the enlargement of the existing methods

A great value is laid on the independent realization of optimization processes. Each student works on his or her own optimization project. This project should build on previous or parallel lectures of the student.
